  • 1. What is exemption?

    Exemption means that an institution does not require full authorization.

  • 2. What is the difference between exemption and authorization?

    Exemption does not require the full authorization process; each category of exemption has its own application or approval process.

  • 3. What types of institutions qualify for exemption?

    O.C.G.A. § 20-3-250.3. Educational institutions exempted from application of part lists the exemption categories under which an institution may be eligible. The exemption must apply to the institution in its entirety for an institution to be considered “exempt”; if only parts of the exemption apply, the institution is not exempt.

  • 5. What is the cost of applying for exemption?

    The cost varies depending on the type of institution you wish to operate. Please see the Schedule of Fees for reference.

  • 6. What should I do if changes are made to my institution after I receive the exemption that could potentially affect my status?

    It is imperative that you contact the Exempt Institution Coordinator immediately to ensure that the change does not affect the institution’s exemption and potential compliance with Georgia Law.

  • 7. How do I begin the exemption application process?

    To inquire about qualification and/or to begin the exemption process, please read O.C.G.A. § 20-3-250.3. "Educational institutions exempted from application of part" to determine which exemption category applies to your institution. If you are ready to begin the process outlined, please submit an Exemption Inquiry Form.  Your submission will be reviewed by the Exempt School Coordinator and a response will be sent.

  • 8. Do GNPEC exemptions expire?

    Effective July 1, 2018 § 20-3-250.3. "Educational institutions exempted from application of part" was updated to include a regular renewal schedule and some fees for exemptions. Changes to be implemented April 1, 2019 with notice to all entities on record as of January 15, 2019.

  • 9. Does Georgia have special requirements for clinicals, internships, etc.?

    There are no special requirements if an institution requires students to undertake internships, externships, practica, student teaching, clinical experiences and/or other non-classroom-centered experiences as long as it does NOT directly supervise such experiences with its own employee(s). Georgia requests that institutions notify GNPEC of the location, number of students, and programming that is being utilized for their students. Notifications should be sent to [email protected].
